General

*  All prices are in New Zealand Dollars (NZ$) and include Goods & Service Tax (GST).

*  Your Scenic Rail Pass is non-refundable once activated by making a reservation for any train or ferry travel sector.

*  Train travel on a Scenic Rail Pass cannot be transferred to another person.

*  Groups and families can be booked on one pass but must always travel together to the same destination/s.  If a member of a family or group wants to travel to other destination/s, then they need to purchase their own Scenic Rail Pass.  Depending on their travel plans, they still can travel on the same services, to destination/s as the other members of the family or group plus their own travel arrangements.

*  Your Scenic Rail Pass purchase confirmations containing your pass number will be emailed to the email address that was given in the original purchase of a Scenic Rail Pass.

*  All travel on a Scenic Rail Pass is subject to the Conditions of Carriage of the Operators used.

*  Bicycles can be carried on any train and ferry service.  Bicycles are restricted to 1 per passenger and must be prebooked. There is a surcharge for each train and ferry sector travelled and is payable on the day of travel.  The surcharges are -

   -  Train travel sector - NZ$10.00 per travel sector per bicycle
   -  Ferry travel sector - NZ$15.00 per sailing per bicycle

   All bicycles must have folding handle bars and pedals.

*  Check in for any train service is at least 20 minutes prior to departure time, a Cook Strait ferry service at least 45 minutes prior to sailing time.

Reservations

*  A Scenic Rail Pass does NOT guarantee a seat on any long distance train or foot passenger space on a Cook Strait ferry sailing unless a reservation has been made.

*  Whilst you can turn up on the day of travel, it is strongly recommend to make a reservation for any train and/or ferry service in advance, so not to be disappointed, especially during the summer period (Nov-Apr), public and school holidays.

*  Reservations for any train or ferry service must be made at least 24 Hours prior to travel date.

*  Reservations can be made online or you can make any reservation/s by phone by calling the New Zealand tollfree number that is on your respective Scenic Rail Pass.

*  Once your travel reservation/s have been confirmed, you will be emailed travel e-ticket/Itineraries of your travel sector/s containing the departure dates, departure/arrival times and check-in times and locations to the email address that was given in the original purchase of a Scenic Rail Pass.

*  Its important to print any pass purchase confirmations and e-ticket/itineraries and included in them with your other travel documents.  This will save any possible confusion and/or disruption to your travel.

Conditions of Use

*  Once issued, your Scenic Rail Pass is fully refundable if cancelled 48 Hours prior to pass start date. No refund if cancelled within 48 Hours pass start or travel date or if a train travel reservation/s have been made. 

*  A NZ$30.00 Refund Processing Fee will apply if a Scenic Rail Pass is cancelled cancelled 48 Hours prior to pass start date.

*  Scenic Rail Pass can be used of unlimited travel on the Auckland to Wellington train, the Christchurch to Picton train, Christchurch to Greymouth train and Cook Strait ferry crossing between the North and South Islands or South and North Islands for the duration of the Scenic Rail Pass purchased.

*  If you have purchased a Scenic Rail Pass Freedom Pass, a train 'Travel' day can be - one way 'Point to Point' train like Auckland to Wellington, return 'Same Day' day travel like Christchurch/ArthursPass/Christchurch, Christchurch/Greymouth/Christchurch, Christchurch/Kaikoura/Christchurch or Christchurch/Picton/Christchurch) or one way 'Ferry/Train' travel from Christchurch to Wellington, Kaikoura to Wellington, Wellington to Kaikoura or Wellington to Christchurch .

*  When travelling on a Scenic Rail Pass, train and ferry reservations or cancellations must be made at 24 hours prior to travel date.

*  When travelling on the Scenic Rail Pass, photographic identification MUST be produced for both train and ferry travel.

*  You can not use your Scenic Rail Pass on the Capital Connection, the Wairarapa Connection train services, Auckland and Wellington suburban train services.

*  The Auckland to Wellington train service operates Auckland to Wellington on Monday, Thursday and Saturday and the Wellington to Auckland train service operates Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.

*  There is no refund for any unused train travel 'Days', dates or cancelled services.
